The census of Kashmir is complete

Every entry on the UT's startup roster has now been examined against the corporate registry. The funnel: 1,105 - 886 - 416 - 8.

The registry has completed its first full examination of Jammu & Kashmir's startup ecosystem. Every company on the UT's official startup roster — 1,105 entries on StartupJK, the government portal — has been checked against the Ministry of Corporate Affairs' own master data.

The findings, in one line: 886 of the 1,105 are registered and active on the corporate registry; 416 qualify as startup-class under DPIIT's own definition — an innovation-sector classification and incorporation within ten years; and 8 have publicly citable proof of revenue, intellectual property, or capital raised.

The methodology is published with the numbers: exact-name matching against MCA master data, sector classification by the Ministry's NIC codes embedded in every CIN, age tested against DPIIT's ten-year rule, and human adjudication — on the record — for the edge cases. Disputes are open to anyone at the census page.

This is what the registry is for. Not another list — a classification, with sources, that an incubator, an investor, or a ministry can cite without blushing.
